Tanzania Trip 2013- Highlights

A team of 6 members of Food For His Children leadership got back this week from a 15 day trip to Tanzania.  There are sure to be more stories to come but here are some of the highlights.

  • Rain poured out for our arrival and for the next day on and off. Had not been in the forecast
  • We did 2 baptisms in the field, one I (Kerrie) was blessed to do myself, the other was led by Pastor Tumbay
  • We attended the funeral visitation for the mother of Israel, a Member of Parliament, to pay our respects.
  • The Jesus Film drew about 100 people.  At the end, we asked people to come for prayer and almost everyone did and was anointed and prayed for.  We gave out 100 Bibles and fed over 100 people.
  • We completed 11 interviews and selected an Assistant Program Manager, Noel Siay.  He has a BA in law and has volunteered with us for over 2 years.
  • We met Pastor Tumbay who was suggested by our Tanzanian contacts to fill our open Faith Coordinator position.  This position will be a part time position focusing on facilitating small groups and other evangelistic efforts with our families.  Pastor Tumbay will complete a three month trial period with us to start with.
  • We looked at 4 different land options.  We're still working with the US attorneys to see if buying is a viable option.
  • Matt met with KIBO’s engineer and lead construction person as plans move forward for the Development Center.  He is very anxious to start drawing up plans for the project.
  • We visited the ladies who make the magazine bead jewelry we partner with for fundraising.  And watched as they showed us how to make the beads.
  • We had 28 hand bags made by the Qurus sewing students which we will sell at jewelry parties.

  • Family updates:

  • Jesse, gave testimony that we prayed for his family in 2009 and anointed them with oil.  He said they had many problems.  They were Muslim, but he stated he is now saved and loves the Lord. I remembered this family right away when he gave his testimony.  After we left their home in 2009, the pastor told me they were Muslim, he was excited because they had allowed me to anoint them with a cross.
  • Gwandu, who is not yet a Christian, asked for prayer and said he will call me when he is ready to be baptized.  He said he thanks God every day for the blessing of the goats and how he is able to help his neighbors now.
  • Bernadette's daughter Prisca had had a baby 2 weeks prior to our visit.  They asked us to name him.  We suggested a few names and they chose Patrick.  I got to baptize this baby.  Prisca has cognitive delays and the baby's birth was unexpected.  Still, since this is the first boy in the family, they consider him a great blessing.
  • This trip was a mission trip for our KIBO guides/drivers as well as for our US team.  It brought them to tears and they are excited to tell other guides about the program so they can bring other tourists to see what is happening.  They talked about asking their friends to help the families they met.  It was such a joy to see God work through them, to see someone who is from the culture so touched by the level of poverty and situations we were in.  I love how God uses this program and gives others passion to see His will and vision be done .

  • Thank you for your continued prayers as we readjust to the US and the jobs God has us in for now. I’d love to still be travelling the Tanzanian countryside visiting with families all day and learning more about their lives and their dreams.
May God richly bless you in all you do today!
    Kerrie and Rob
